Teenage girl stabbed to death in Jaffna

Unidentified persons entering a house Saturday night in Aththiadi in Achchuveali stabbed to death a 15-year-old girl student who happened to be alone in the house. Motive of the killing is suspected to be robbery. This is the fourth incident where women staying alone in their homes being killed within one month in Jaffna peninsula, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, a student of Jaffna College who had accompanied students of Changkaanai Saivapprakaasa Viththiyaalayam on an educational tour to the South drowned dead while bathing in Paraakkirama Samuthiram in Pollanaruvai.

The teenage girl killed was identified as Paveenthiran Kalaichelvi, a student of Aththiyadi Mathiya Viththiyaalayam.

Her parents had gone on some errand leaving Kalaichelvi alone at home Saturday night.

The student drowned dead was identified as Vimalarajah Abitharan, 16. His mother, a teacher at Changkaanai Saivapprakaasa Viththiyaalayam, had taken Abitharan on the tour along with her students.

Abitharan’s body is kept at Pollanaruvai government hospital mortuary and arrangements are being made to transport it to Jaffna.
