Candidates of common opinion elected in Norway for TGTE

3511 Eezham Tamil voters turned out to elect 3 representatives for Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) Sunday in a technically well conducted election across 17 centers in Norway. Dr. Sivakanesan Thillaiampalam (2449 votes), Jeyasri Balasubramaniam (2342) and Murali Sivanandan (2321) representing a common shade of opinion on how the TGTE should be structured, were elected.

Jeyasri Balasubramaniam and Murali Sivanandan were elected for Eastern (Oslo) region of Norway and Dr. Sivakanesan Thillaiampalam was elected for the other regions of Norway.

Jeyasri is also an elected member of the Norwegian Council of Eelam Tamils (NCET).

All the winning candidates campaigned together as a group.

Unlike in the other countries, where voters were confined to their constituencies, in Norway, voting was common for the entire country,

The polling centres covered 74 percent of the voting population, i.e., 6512 voters and the voter turnout was roughly 53 percent.

This is the third ballot successfully conducted among Eezham Tamils in Norway within an year since May 2009.

5633 voters participated in the referendum on Tamil Eelam, conducted on 10 May last year. 2767 turned out to the polls of the country council NCET, on 15 November.
