India is planning to provide an additional assistance of USD 382 million to Sri Lanka for rebuilding infrastructure in the northern parts of the country.

"We have in addition extended the lines of credit worth 416 million dollars for the restoration of railway infrastructure and other infrastructure projects in northern Sri Lanka. Another 382 million dollars are in the pipeline," Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said.

She made the remarks while inaugurating a two-day seminar on ‘Taking the Sri Lankan Peace Process forward’ organised by Observer Research Foundation.

Rao said that Sri Lanka is engaged in a major exercise to resolve the problem of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and needed massive help to rehabilitate and resettle them.
