TN govt appoints panel to look into Nalini’s charges

A top-level committee will submit its report "within the next two days" on the complaints of Nalini, convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Tamil Nadu’s Law Minister Durai Murugan, informed the State’s Assembly on Thursday.

Responding to a question from C. Gnanasekharan (Congress), who wanted to know if there was any truth in the allegations that she was given poisoned food, Mr. Durai Murugan said the government had appointed a three-member committee headed by Coimbatore DIG of Prisons, Govindarajan and comprising Sekar (Vellore prison) and Allirani (Puzhal women’s prison).

Mr. Durai Murugan said the committee had members from outside the prison where she was lodged to ensure impartiality since she had petitioned officials regarding some grievances and made some allegations.
