Pro-LTTE activists in Chennai pay homage to the Tamilians killed in Sri Lanka – Oneindia

(ANI): Hundreds of pro- Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) activists took out a rally here on Tuesday to pay homage to Tamilians killed in Sri Lanka a year ago during the government’s action against the LTTE.

The demonstrators, who commenced the rally from Rajarathnam Stadium, carried posters of Velupillai Prabhakaran, the slain LTTE chief and raised slogans against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The activists said May 18 is a black day in the history of Tamilians.

"On May 18 last year more than one lakh Lankan Tamilians were killed. So it is a black day for us. Tamilians, world over are observing a tearful tribute to them. We are remembering them," said Balaguru, organiser of the rally.

He also blamed India for helping the Sri Lankan government in what he alleged, in killing the Tamils rebels.

"We know who is the mastermind behind this. It is India. Tamilians all over the world know this fact, which I have to inform you through the media," Balaguru said.

On May 18 last year, Sri Lankan government announced that it had defeated the LTTE.

Around 10,000 fighters surrendered and the entire rebel leadership was killed in the final bloody battle in the region of Mullaithivu.
