Corpses located in toilet pit in Ki’linochchi to be exhumed Monday

The plastic bags containing six corpses found dumped in a toilet pit of a house in Kaneasapuram in Ki’linochchi are to be dug out Monday in the presence of the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) from Vavuniyaa Government Hospital, on the directive of Ki’linochchi magistrate who visited the site. Members of the family resettled in the said house in February had located Saturday dead bodies of massacred victims, buried inside their toilet pit. Ki’linochchi parliamentarian Sritharan who visited the house and saw the toilet pit said that the killings must have been a planned affair.

The above house is located in Kaneasapuram located 500 m west of A9 road in Ki’linochchi.

The corpses were discovered when the owner of the house began renovation work of the toilet.

The owner and his family uprooted from Ki’linochchi had been held in one of the camps in Vavuniyaa.

MP Sritharan described that the plastic bags placed in two layers in the toilet pit had stones and sand piled upon revealing that the concealment of the corpses was done securely taking quite a lot of time. It shows that the killings were well planned ahead, he added.

As the presence of a JMO is necessary for this nature of exhumation Ki’linochchi magistrate directed the police to arrange for the presence of Vavuniyaa JMO at the site Monday.

Meanwhile, the residents in the area who witnessed the bodies said Sri Lanka Army and Police rushed to the spot as they witnessed at least five bodies inside the pit.

A proper investigation by a reliable third party should be carried out before the SLA and the police twist the story, a concerned human rights activist who did not wish to be named had told TamilNet Saturday.
