West betraying Sri Lanka: Lankan PM

Western countries were "betraying" Sri Lanka by allowing the LTTE’s front organisations to function in them, even though the LTTE was banned in these countries, Sri Lankan Prime Minister D M Jayaratne told visiting Japanese Special Envoy Yasushi Akashi on Thursday.

The LTTE had plans to establish "virtual states" even in countries where it was officially banned, the Prime Minister said. Sri Lanka therefore felt that the governments of those countries were betraying the island nation, he said. "We have not allowed any group or individual to conspire against any State in the world within the territory of Sri Lanka.
