Lankan among two held at airport

In two separate incidents at the Chennai airport, two men, including a Sri Lankan national, were arrested on Friday.

During a check, immigration officials found that Mohammad Buhari (35) of Adhiramapattinam near Pudukottai, who had arrived from Japan here, where he had been working in a car company for eight years, was carrying someone else’s passport, with his photo affixed on it. Following this, Buhari gave the officials the chase, around the airport and fell down, after which he was nabbed.

His relatives, who were waiting outside, told police that Buhari was mentally instable and had come home for medical treatment.

In another incident, a Sri Lankan national was arrested, while his companion escaped, at the airport on Friday, after bricks were found in his luggage. Police said Abdul Hameed (42) and Mohammad Basheer (53) of Sri Lanka were about to board a flight to Colombo at 12.15 pm when the airport officials, who were scanning their luggage, found that one of the suitcases was filled with bricks.

Growing suspicious, the officials immediately alerted the CISF personnel who arrived with sniffer dogs and bomb detectors and on seeing them approach, Abdul gave them the slip.
