Indian Navy Admiral avoids meeting media in Jaffna

Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral Nirmal Verma, who was on a day’s visit to Jaffna peninsula Thursday avoided facing local media persons who awaited his arrival at Nalloor Kanthasuvami Koayil to collect news and take photographs, media sources in Jaffna said. Nirmal Verma was received by North Central Naval Commander Rear Admiral Rohan Amarasinghe on arrival at Kaangkeasanthu’rai (KKS) Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) base where he inspected the renovation work in KKS harbour.

The visiting Admiral was flown to Jaffna Fort in a helicopter where he looked around the Fort and from there, as scheduled, came to Nalloor Kanthasuvaami Koayil to worship where the local media persons were waiting from morning to interview him.

Admiral Nirmal Verma, however, had him driven away from the temple abruptly, on seeing the waiting journalists.

There was a large number of army and police personnel deployed in the temple surroundings from Thursday early morning.
