Death threats to family of nurse killed in Veala’nai government hospital

The mother of Sravanai Tharsika, the family consultant nurse allegedly killed by a Sinhala doctor in the islets of Jaffna, complained in Oorkaavattu’rai magistrate court Monday that unidentified persons on motor cycles had come to her house several times and threatened her and her family with death if they pursue in any way with the case of Tharsika’s killing, sources in Oorkaavattu’rai said. Tharsika’s mother also filed a petition through a lawyer Monday to Oorkaavttu’rai court seeking exhumation and fresh medical examination of her daughter’s remains as she believes Tharsika was sexually abused before being killed. She had added in the petition that she does not believe the medical examination report of Tharsika’s body submitted and requested the fresh medical examination report to be submitted in the court, the sources added.

Oorkaavattu’rai magistrate directed the police to contact Chaavakachcheari police and make security arrangements of Tharsika’s mother and if needed to Tharsika’s family.

It is expected that Oorkaavattu’rai magistrate will issue the order for exhumation of Tahrsika’s remains Tuesday, the sources added.

Meanwhile, inquiry into the Sinhala doctor alleged of killing Tharsika being admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital saying that he was attacked by Jaffna prison officials was taken in Oorkaavattur’ai magistrate court Monday.

Oorkaavattu’rai police told the court that they had prepared their report earlier submitted to the court on information given to them by the police officials posted in Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

The magistrate reprimanded the police for admitting the Sinhala doctor suspect to the hospital when he was not injured and directed the police to submit a detailed report to the court as to why the suspect was admitted to the hospital.
