Media development authority to be set up in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that Sri Lanka government has decided to set up a Media Development Authority to help media to enhance its professionalism and efficiency further. The government is to introduce media guidelines in accordance with media ethics to promote professionalism and the skills of journalists in Sri Lanka, he added.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was speaking at a seminar in Kandy Sunday where he said the authority proposed has no harsh regulatory mechanism.

Director General of the Government Information Department Professor Ariyaratne Athugala has been authorized to prepare an initial draft on this new initiative, according to the government information department, Rambukwella informed.
