UNP to discuss latest political development next week

The Working Committee of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to meet coming week to discuss the move of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) to support and provide two third majority to the government led by Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa to pass the constitutional amendment, UNP deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya told media Saturday.

Mr.Karu Jayasuriya criticized the decision of the SLMC that it should have consulted the UNP before arriving at a decision.

The SLMC in the last general election contested on the UNP ticket and won six parliamentary seats and obtained two national list seats.

For a matter of courtesy the SLMC should have informed the UNP its intention of supporting Rajapakse regime, Mr. Jayasuriya said.
