SL government allocates land for star hotel in Jaffna to private company

Sri Lanka government has allocated land in Chiruththeevu in the islets of Jaffna occupied by Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) to a private company to build a five star hotel, sources in Jaffna said. SLN continues to refuse permission to local fishermen to fish in Chiruththeevu area which includes Ma’ndaitheevu, Poonakari and Jaffna lagoon.

SLN has one of its main bases in Chiruththeevu which had been attacked once by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eezham (LTTE) after which SLN had sown the area with mines.

Local fishermen who land in Chiruththeevu to rest have been caught and seriously injured in mine blasts since then.

Land surveying for the construction of the five star hotel in Chiruththeevu has been completed, the sources added.

Though Sri Lanka government had made much publicity of building private five star hotels in Chaaddi in Veala’nai and Casurina beach in Kaarainakar in the islets of Jaffna long ago nothing has been done in both places.
