Many diaspora Eezham Tamil youths from European countries participated in the ‘Tamil Youth Conference 2010’ held Saturday in Dusseldorf in Germany with the aim of getting to know talented youths engaged in diverse pursuits and to set up a creative website connecting them. The participants shared their views related to the political situation in their homeland, the miserable life of the people there and the confusion prevailing among expatriate Eezham Tamils. The Conference is the outcome of the first effort to rally the diaspora Eehzam Tamil youths in a meeting without leanings to any particular organization, Sanjeevkanth Luxshumikumar, a digital media artist from Germany and one of the organizers of the event said. It is our intention to hold this conference annually and in a large scale, he added.
Participants said that the ‘Tamil Youth Conference 2010’ had conveyed a clear and hopeful message to the Eezham Tamils that ‘Nothing has come to an end’.
Silence in remembrance of those who died fighting against oppression and people who died in the cruel war was observed for a couple of minutes in the conference which began at 12 noon Saturday and concluded at 8:00 p.m.
The aim and need of the conference was explained to the participants by the organizers then.
“The people in our homeland live amidst misery and despair while those abroad are confused, but all of us dream of ‘Tamil Eezham’. We have a clear vision and the urge to fight oppression. Like it or not we continue to function.
Everything for us centers on the motto that ‘We are subjects of no one’. Our desire is to emerge liberated with uniqueness and progress. We may belong to different fields but our duty is the same.
This conference will pave the way for mutual exchange of ideas and projects and for cooperation,” it was said in the introduction.
Youths representing various spheres of interest spoke and talks were followed by discussion and the presentation of several constructive plans that the the Tamil youths are engaged in.
The war crimes of Sri Lanka government, the lawsuit filed against it for the violation of human rights, the release of the stamp highlighting Tamil genocide in Eehzam and the creation of a website for Eezham Tamil Cinema were some of subjects discussed and explored into.
Law student Arulnila Theiventhiram introduced the project of the stamp release against Tamil Genocide in Eezham that is to take place in several countries.
Lathan Suntharalingam, a student political activist in Switzerland, spoke on the lawsuit filed against Sri Lanka’s war crimes and violation of human rights.
Subas Kamalenthiran from Norway, whose short film ‘Vanni Mouse’ had bagged several awards, spoke about the website for Eezham Tamil Cinema now under creation in Norway.
A short film named, ‘Little Terrorist’ by Aswin Kumar was shown at the conclusion of the conference.
At the end of the conference, Rubashini Balasubramaniam, a medical student in Germany and one of the organizers of the event, said that it was a great pleasure to have enabled several diaspora Tamil Eezham youths engaged in various fields to meet each other and exchange views and ideas irrespective of their differences, thanking all the participants.
