Ranjitha’s lawyers issue statement

image In a response to the furore caused by the recent video aired by a leading Tamil news channel, allegedly showing actress Ranjitha in a compromising position with a popular religious personality, the actress’ lawyers PM Law Chambers issued a statement, saying:

"The video clips clearly amount to gross violation of various laws of India, have malicious, diabolical and destructive intent, and are clearly aimed at bringing harm to Ms. Ranjitha. The media, which portrayed the said videos without any clarification from her, her attorneys or family, are of no concern to Ms. Ranjitha, who is under extreme distress after the event. The video that has been widely circulated on the Internet as well as being broadcasted on certain News channels in India is still to be proved in the Courts of Law as to be admissible."

Their statement said that before Ranjitha could respond to the media about the scandal, a completely fabricated interview with the actress was published in a Tamil magazine, which was quoted by media en mass, which multiplied her problems on the personal front and led to an emotional catastrophe. It said that several similar "interviews" were published in various newspapers in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

PM Law Chambers said that they, on behalf of Ranjitha, have already issued legal notice to some Internet giants asking them to immediately remove the videos.

Her lawyers further said they would be initiating action against the perpetrators for defamation and other offences under the IPC, besides provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
