Soulful Swarnalatha

image Singer Swarnalatha was one of the most versatile singers of her times. Hailing from Pallakkad, Swarnalatha was interested in singing, even as a three-year-old. After learning Carnatic music from Saroja, she approached MS Viswanathan. MSV gave her first song “Chinnanchiru Kiliye Kannamma” for the film ‘Neethikku Thandanai’ in 1987 which went on to be a super hit.

Her next break came through Illayaraja with the song ‘Malaiyil Yaro Manathodu Pesa’ for the film ‘Chathriyan’. Both the songs put her on the top. Later Swarnalatha went on to sing some of the most memorable melodies in the 90s under the baton of Illayaraja and AR Rahman. Though born in Kerala.

Though born in Kerala Swarnalatha’s glory came from Tamil Nadu and Tamil films.  Most of Swarnalatha’s best songs were for the maestros Illayaraja and AR Rahman. She has also rendered some prominent Hindi songs for AR Rahman including the big hit ‘Hai Rama Yeh Kya Hua’ in Rangeela.

IndiaGlitz offers its heartfelt condolences to her parents. The loss is irreparable.
