Court orders TV viewing privileges to Fonseka in prison cell

Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court has ordered the Welikada Prison administration to allow former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to view televison programs in his prison cell. The order was made to the Prison Chief following a submission by Fonseka’s lawyer this week, Sinhala daily Dinamina said.

According to the article in Dinamina, usually, prison inmates have the opportunity to watch television, however as Fonseka has been put in a separate cell away, he does not have the opportunity watch television while serving his prison term.

Fonseka’s family is expected to give a television set to the prison administration who will in turn place it in Fonseka’s cell.
