Rajapaksa extends LLRC term for another six months

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has extended term of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) that is to expire at the end of November this year for another six months from 1st December, according to Lakshman Wickremasinghe, Media Advisor of the LLRC. The LLRC has already been discredited by three leading human rights agencies of the West.

Amnesty International, International Crisis Group and Human Rights Watch in October said they will not accept an invitation to testify before a Sri Lankan government commission because it lacks the ability to advance accountability for war crimes.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed the eight-member Commission in May 2010 to report on the ‘lessons’ to be learnt from the events in the period from 21st February 2002 to 19th May 2009. The Commission is chaired by the former Attorney General C. R. de Silva.
