TNMB plans to set up terminal for ferry service

Even as India and Sri Lanka expedited the process of resuming ferry service between Rameswaram-Talaimannar and Tuticorin-Colombo sectors, the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board (TNMB) has decided to convert the existing naval detachment premises as terminal for the shipping service in Rameswaram.

It has asked the Navy, which runs its detachment in a place owned by Tamil Nadu Maritime Board, to move to some other locations in order to undertake preparatory works for the terminal infrastructure. It was from the same premises, the ferry service was operated between Rameswaram and Talaimannar in the early part of 1980’s.
