Released ex-Liberation Tiger combatants intimidated by SLA in Jaffna

The parents of a former Liberation Tiger combatant who had been rehabilitated after arrest and later released to join his family complained Thursday to Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) office that their son is continually threatened by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Intelligence Unit officers and men when he appears to sign at the SLA Intelligence Unit camp as instructed. Amidst many accusations that the former Liberation combatants released after rehabilitation are intimidated and at times attacked in the SLA Intelligence Wing camps in Achchezhu and Oorezhu in Jaffna, this complaint has been made against the SLA men to the HRC publicly, sources in Jaffna said.

Recently a young female ex-combatant released had been abducted when she went to the SLA Intelligence camp to sign. She was freed after some days due to the unceasing efforts of her family, the sources added.

Though this was brought to the notice of Sri Lanka minister D. E. W. Gunasekara during his visit to Jaffna recently he had not taken any action on the complaint to him.

Accusations of this nature are raised particularly against the SLA Officeres and men of the Intelligence Wing camps in Achchezhu and Oorezhu in Jaffna where the released ex-combatants appear daily or weekly to sign a register, the sourced further said.
