Colombo establishment is hurriedly attempting to appoint Sinhala officials in higher posts of the civil administration in the North in recent days, civil sources in Jaffna said. Sinhala officials are being appointed to top level civil services posts of local civil administration, the civil sources further said. Meanwhile, among 135 new recruits to Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) recently, there is not even one Tamil and there was only one Muslim. SL Secretary to Public Administration gave an explanation that none of the Tamil medium candidates could score enough marks in the examination evaluated by Tamil academics, implying that standard of education among war-torn Tamils became poor. But Colombo has no explanation why it was poor even among Up-Country Tamils, Colombo Tamils and Muslims, in not being able to bring out administrators.
The developments show that Colombo is blatant and is in a hurry to complete the necessary infrastructure for a long-term genocide of Tamils, permanent subjugation of them and extermination of their nation in the island, said a former Tamil civil servant.
Posts such as tax-collection officers, evaluation officers and engineers attached to the civil service in the North and East are systematically offered to Sinhala officials from the South.
Among the 29 recent appointments to the District Secretariats in the Ampaa’rai district in the Eastern Province, there was only one Tamil, pointed out, Dr. A L Farook of Ampaa’rai, cited by Lakbimanews.
In 2009, Colombo Establishment appointed a Sinhala-Buddhist monk as the curator for archaeological sites and artefacts in Jaffna peninsula, which has been viewed as an arrogant gesture of cultural genocide being committed on Eezham Tamils.
Meanwhile the health sector in the north is also being Sinhalicised with doctors from South. Sinhalese are given priority in filling health vacancies at various levels, the sources in Jaffna say.
As contracts of construction projects in Jaffna are taken over by southern companies, an influx of workers from south into the peninsula has also raised concern while local workers are deprived of employment and project contracts, citing various reasons.
