Seek release of HC advocate held in Sri Lanka

DMK general secretary Vaiko Friday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna to take up with Colombo the issue of an Indian advocate detained by the Sri Lankan army.

In a letter addressed to Singh and Krishna, Vaiko expressed fears for the safety of I. Kayalvizhi, an advocate in Madras High Court, detained by the Sri Lankan Army Jan 19.

"The people of Tamil Nadu are concerned about her safety," he said in his letter.

Kayalvizhi, daughter of Tamil writer Iraikkuruvanar and granddaughter of Tamil poet Perunchithiranar, had gone to Sri Lanka Jan 13 along with Thirumalai to see in person the living conditions of the Sri Lankan Tamils inside refugee camps.
