SLA restricts movement of IDPs in Kodikaamam Camp

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has instructed outsiders to get prior permission from its sentry points to visit residents in Kodikaamam Rama Welfare Centre in Jaffna district. About two thousand people uprooted from Killinochchi, Mullaithivu and areas in the Vadamaradchchi East are still staying in this camp as they are not allowed to resettle in their areas. The camp residents were allowed earlier to leave camps and work without any restriction.

However from this week the security forces have directed the camp residents to register them with the security point before leaving for work and return. Likewise outsiders who want to visit the inmates are also directed to report to the sentry point and obtain permission to enter.

The same procedure is being followed by the workers of the government sector and non-governmental organizations.

Relief to the refugees of the welfare centres has been drastically reduced.

The refugees are forced to earn for their survival by finding manual work outside the camp.
