Tamil Nadu needs non-political movement for Eezham liberation: Sathyaraj

Sathyaraj_21_02_2011_fr Sathyaraj, a popular film actor from Tamil Nadu state of India, while addressing the gathering in Chennai on Monday on the occasion of paying tribute to the late Parvathi Amma, the mother of LTTE leader Pirapaharan, urged the leaders and activists supporting the Eezham cause to forge a non-political movement with the sole aim of taking forward the cause of Eezham Tamils. Calling the leaders and activists to put an end to rhetoric, the artist, who played the award-winning role of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy in the documentary film, Periyar, said the cause of Eezham Tamils is beyond any identity of sectarian politics, castes or groups in Tamil Nadu and addressed Pirapaharan as the leader of World Tamils.

Pazha_Nedumaran_21_02_2011_92241_200 In many struggles, the families of leaders led a secure life, but Mr. Pirapahran’s entire family was in the field with their people, Mr. Sathyaraj told the gathering.

The gathering on Monday, organized by Pazha Nedumaran of Tamil National Movement and Vaiko of MDMK with several others was the largest event in Tamil Nadu, while the people, movements and parties of Tamil Nadu held hundreds of events across the country.

Kasi_Anandan_21_02_2011_92235_200 Poet Kasi Anandan, who hails from Batticaloa and resides in Tamil Nadu, in his address observed how three generations of Parvathi Amma’s family were contributing to the Eezham cause. He also told how Parvathi Amma remembered the childhood times of Pirapaharan in Batticaloa.

Vaiko gave a detailed speech, registering the course of events during and after the deportation of Parvathi Amma from Chennai airport by the establishments of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi and Indian Home Minister Chidamparam, even after the mother had landed in Chennai after obtaining Indian visa for medical treatment.

Nijamudeen_21_02_2011_92238_200 Several key persons, including Mr. Nijamudeen, the general secretary of the Muslim League and a former Member of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu and C. Mahendran, the joint secretary of the deputy state secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Tamil Nadu other key personalities also addressed the mourners at the cross-party event.

The Arabs forming a common civilisation, constitute many nation-states in the world order. In the same way, Tamils of Eezham and Tamils of Tamil Nadu are separate and unique nations, declared a speaker at the event.

Political observers in Tamil Nadu attributed significance to the increasing support to the Eezham struggle in their country.
