Young Tamil mother strangled to death in Batticaloa

Body of a young woman, mother of one child, was recovered from a shrub jungle in Paaliyadithona area in Era’voor police division in Batticaloa district Sunday. The body identified as that of 18 years-old Roopashini Jeyagnesh was found along the coast of a lagoon in Jinnah Veethi in Paaliyadithona. She left on February 24 with a herd of cattle for rearing to the shrub jungle and failed to return home, residents said.

The preliminary inquiry conducted by the police it was revealed that she had been strangled to death.

Roopashini was born and grew up in Thevapuram in Murakoddanchcheanai village. She was released from the LTTE and had been residing in Santhiveli. After marriage she had been living with her mother-in-law at Paaliyadithona while her husband has gone to Saudi Arabia seeking employment.

Paaliyadithona is located 28 km away north of Batticaloa town.
