Sections in TGTE plan ‘expelling’ Democrats

International Association of Tamil Journalists based in London in a news release on Sunday said that it had taken an initiative to sort out contradictory news appearing on the affairs of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) and to bring out a dialogue among the members of TGTE. Accordingly, it was agreed upon in a meeting held on 12 March for three committees to discuss the matter, the news release said. In the meantime, a press release signed by Mr. V. Rudrakumaran on Thursday said that if any member declared elected fails to sworn in before Friday, accepting a constitution he claims ratified by the assembly, then it would be considered that such member relieves himself or herself and the TGTE have to move on for the ‘next step’.

The first assembly of the TGTE was elected on the premises that it would serve as a constitution assembly.

Elections to the assembly were incomplete. Members are yet to be elected from some constituencies. Results were not declared in some. Re-elections have to be conducted in some other constituencies as election officials decided that there were malpractices.

Mr. Rudrakumaran in his press release has stated that efforts will be taken to elect members for the 10 seats and for filling in the nominated members. Yet, there was a claim in the press release that ‘two third majority’ had ratified a constitution and all members have to now sworn in under it.

Media Statement by V. Rudrakumaran

Considerable number of members opposed to the way the government was declared formed with monopolising powers vested on a single person, when the house was not formed and convened properly.

Informed circles said that certain forces behind the TGTE are keen that the Democrats of the TGTE, who may not be agreeable to an ‘agenda already fixed’ should be expelled now itself, under whatever pretext possible, to carry out the ‘agenda’ without obstacles.
