Ampaa’rai mother appeals to LLRC to locate son abducted by Karuna men

A widowed Tamil mother, Kasipillai Marakathamani, of Vinaayagapuram in Thirukoail Friday appealed to the Lessons and Learnt Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) to locate her only son who was forcibly taken over from her house three years ago by cadres of Karuna Para military Group. Since then the son has been missing and his whereabouts are not known. Marakathamani was giving evidence before the LLRC sittings Friday morning in the Ampaa’rai District Secretariat.

Vinayagamoorthy Muralidharan alias Karuna is currently the deputy Resettlement Minister in the Mahinda Rajapakse government.

The Mother revealed to the LLRC commissioners that Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Ampaarai District Coordinator Inniyabarathi of Karuna para military group had told her that Inniyabarathi had handed over her son to the Sri Lanka Army (SLA).

She further stated four cadres from Karuna para military group including Seelan and Jude came to her house on 29.09.2008 around 5.30 a.m. and forcibly put her son in a three wheeler and took him away amid protests by her.

The Karuna group had allegedly thrice fired into the air and pushed her aside and driven in a three wheeler.

Since then she had been continuously visiting Karuna camp in Thirukoail and inquired about her son.

One day one Seelan in the camp told her that he handed over her son to Barathy who was in charge of the Karuna camp. She identified Barathy as Inniyabarathi.

Inniyabarathi is the Ampaarai District Coordinator of Mahinda Rajapakse.

When she had inquired from Inniyabarathi who was in the camp with Seelan he had told her that he handed her son to the Sri Lanka Army and thereafter he did not know what happened to her son.
