Students of international politics know well that India materialised an independent Bangladesh in 1971, but within a few years the USA turned it against India. Even to this day India is struggling hard to make the odds even. The same story is being re-enacted in Sri Lanka, but in a different way. India in strategic complicity decided Colombo winning a war through genocide of Tamils, but the US responsible of equal complicity and now articulating a deceptive ‘reconciliation’ paradigm, aims to emerge as the ‘ultimate saviour’ by hoodwinking Eezham Tamils through sections in the diaspora on one hand and by negotiating survival of state and regime of genocidal Colombo on the other. Failure to recognize the Eezham Tamil nation at this stage will be India’s Achilles Heel internally and externally, writes TamilNet political commentator in Colombo.

Whatever India had done in the island for whatever reasons, helped only to alienate it further from both the nations in the island. More than that, New Delhi is today alienated from its own people in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Who ever in India were directing the affairs for whatever reasons, India has made a series of tactical blunders in not stopping the war, in standing against international action at the UN human rights council and in oppressing righteous voices calling for the recognition of Eezham Tamil nation.
On the other hand, an equally responsible USA operating in sophisticated ways, successfully painted a picture for its acquittal by stage-managing an empty ‘evacuation’ drama, by tabling a failed move for international action at the UN human rights council, by often calling for ‘some’ responsibility to be acknowledged for the war crimes, by cultivating ‘tangential’ sections in the diaspora and by taking a tactical and symbolic move of providing space for the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam to operate in its territory.
None of them so far didn’t mean anything for the plight of Eezham Tamils and they don’t either mean that genocidal Colombo don’t have better friends in Washington than in India. But it is a lesson to the Krishna Menon legacy Kautilyas of New Delhi who were more interested in serving heads on the platter in medieval fashion than winning friends sustainable to India.
The leaked cables of Wikileaks accessed and serialised by The Hindu, show that some thing has gone wrong somewhere for India.
Meanwhile, the war footing with which Colombo is engaged in colonisation, militarization, change of demography, grab of land and disempowerment of people in the country of Eezham Tamils are not without reason.
They all are aimed at making even any half-baked political solution suggested by India and the USA meaningless for Eezham Tamils.
In the total absence of any effective check against what is being carried out by Colombo, Eezham Tamils and political observers outside in general couldn’t help the feeling that some quarters in some establishments think that ‘everything goes on well as planned.’
The ultimate encouragement to the genocidal state of Sri Lanka and to its present regime in Colombo comes basically from the stand in some establishments of the world that unity of state in the island is a sacred cow.
Organizations such as the International Crisis Group (ICG) think that they have the mandate of passing judgments shaping ‘international order’ and interpreting universal values on a contextual basis of their choice, know the art of putting it in hoodwinking terms that the ‘right to self-determination’ of Eezham Tamils has to be within the existing borders of the Sri Lankan state. They only reflect the same mindset shown in the days of British colonialism that what ‘constitutional reform’ has to be given to which colony.
As long as the Sri Lankan state is upheld, no reasonable solution could emerge in the island is the experienced truth of the provenance cum context realities in the island over several decades.
In an environment in which uprisings of peoples elsewhere in the world is heard loudly, the biggest blunder made by the establishment in India is sitting on the voices or manipulating against the voices inside and outside for righteous liberation in its neighbourhood.
India should take trend-setting steps towards recognising the nation of Eezham Tamils and in creating conducive international environment for it, before its failure in striking a balance between its interests and the logic of righteousness on the national question in the island is taken advantage of by others.
Even before the establishment in India is moved, articulating intellectuals and media in India should be the first to realise that the rhetoric of imposing a united state in the island has brought in only further deterioration whether in stability, power entanglement or in human rights situation in the island. Even whatever the Indian corporates have achieved or aim to achieve through partnership with Colombo may not have the guarantee of survival in the unfolding scenario.
