TB affected on the increase among uprooted people of Vanni

Several uprooted Tamil civilians from Vanni following Colombo’s genocidal onslaught in Vanni and still kept in detention centres in Vavuniyaa have been diagnosed as suffering from tuberculosis (TB), according to Dr.C.Jamunananda who is in charge of the TB control unit in Jaffna district.

The number of TB patients is on the increase in the Ki’linochchi region, he said addressing the International TB Prevention Day held at Ki’lnochchi Hindu College. College Principal S.Balakrishnan presided.

Dr. Jamunananda added that several TB patients still bereaving for their loss of relatives in the war were are diagnosed as affected by the disease and are now coming forward seeking medical help.

TB is not a hereditary disease and it could be cured, the doctor told the gathering with a warning that if not attended properly, the disease could infect others in the family.
