ITAK local councilors of North, East to take oath in Trincomalee

76 councilors of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) elected to fifteen local authorities and Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of twelve local authorities are scheduled to take oaths on April 10 Sunday morning at Trincomalee Town Hall in the presence of Mr.R.Sampanthan, parliamentary group leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the president of Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK). ITAK is the major constituent of the TNA. Earlier TNA decided to have the event on March 31 but it was later postponed to April 10 enabling Sampanthan to attend the event, party sources said.

ITAK captured power of two Urban Councils (Trincomalee and Mannaar) and ten Piratheasa Chapais (PS) in North and East.

Sampanthan who underwent heart surgery in India four months ago is due to return to Colombo on Monday April 4. He is to attend the parliament on April 5 when it meets to debate the motion to extend the State of Emergency for another month.

Thereafter, Sampanthan is to lead the TNA delegation in the "fourth round of talks" with the Rajapaksa government’s former prime minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.

Sampanthan is expected to return to Trincomalee on April 8 and will attend the oath taking event of 76 local councilors on April 10.

ITAK contested fifteen local bodies but captured twelve including two urban councils (Trincomalee and Mannaar) and ten PS of Verukal in Trincomalee district, Naavithanve’li and Aalaiyadivempu in Ampaa’rai district, Vavuniyaa South , Vavuniyaa North and Venkalach-cheddiku’lam in Vavuniyaa district, Mannaar, Naanaaddaan, Maanthai east in Mannaar district and Maanthai West in Mullaiththeevu district.
