Sampanthan presides oath taking event of ITAK local councilors

The oath taking event of seventy six councilors of the fifteen local bodies in the North and East is scheduled to be held on Saturday in Trincomalee Town Hall. Mr.R.Sampanthan, parliamentary group leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the President of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) arrived in Trincomalee Friday evening to preside over the event. The event was earlier fixed for Sunday.

The ITAK contested the local elections held on March 17 and captured the administration of twelve local authorities including two Urban Councils (Trincomalee and Mannaar) and ten Pratheasa Sabais in the North and East. It has also won some seats in other three local bodies.

All the ITAK councilors including twelve Chairmen and Vice Chairmen will be taken in a procession from Trincomalee Sri Paththirakali Ambal Kovil along the Dockyard Road to the Trincomalee Town Hall.

Parliamentarians of TNA and leaders of constituent parties of the TNA are also scheduled to address the event.
