Tamils threatened by Sinhalese to leave their lands in Poththuvil

Tamil families, who have been living for generations in Tamil villages of Oo’rani, Kanakar Kiraamam, Koddukkal and Ma’natcheanai in Poththuvil DS division, are under threat from Sinhalese to leave their houses and paddy lands, Tamil political circles in Ampaa’rai said.

Sri Lankan government was issuing fake documents to the encroachers making them to claim that they were owning the lands from 1920s and 1950s.

At the same time the government was also acquiring thousands of acres of land in Ampaa’rai district under the guise tourist development.

Tamil people feel they are not allowed to live peacefully in their own lands even after the end of the war two years ago, according to concerned Tamil politicians from the district.
