UN wrongs the World by inducting SL Military for ‘peacekeeping’

The United Nations sent a wrong signal to the world on Wednesday when it signed an agreement with the war crimes indicted Sri Lankan military for its induction in world ‘peacekeeping’ missions of the United Nations. Besides contradicting its own advisory panel report, the UN also ignored the earlier ‘record’ of the Sri Lankan military in the UN peace keeping missions. 114 Sri Lankan soldiers, on peacekeeping mission, were sent back by the UN from Haiti in 2007 for systematically raping Haitian women and girls, some as young as 7 years old. The move comes at a time when the UN is expected to take action on the findings of its report on war crimes and Sri Lanka is hosting international military conference to role model its genocidal military.

Palitha Kohona, who has been indicted of complicity in war crimes in the final hours of 18 May, in a statement issued by SL permanent mission of Sri Lanka to the UN said: “By entering into this MOU Sri Lanka upgraded its contribution status from Level-1 to Level -3. This is a turning point of its involvement in peacekeeping since its first contribution in 1960”.

In an attempt to brush away criticisms, UN spokesman Martin Nsirky has described the move as a “routine agreement, which the UN has already signed with 89 other member states.”
