Wickremasinghe to meet Indian leaders

Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP), is to leave for New Delhi on Monday on a two day visit. Wickremasinhe is expected to hold talks with the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, leader of the Congress Party Ms Sonia Gandhi, and several ministers in the Indian government, according to UNP sources in Colombo.

Political circles in Colombo view Ranil Wickremasinghe visit to New Delhi in connection with the UN Experts Panel report.

India is also applying pressure to the government of Mahinda Rajapakse to find a political solution to the Tamil question, as revealed in the joint statement issued in New Delhi by the two governments after a three-day visit by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister G.L.Peiris in Delhi.
