Tamils reject collaboration-reconciliation, favour identity-based peace

The results of civic elections in the country of Eezham Tamils decisively show that despite maximum intimidation and ‘development’ lures, people reject the paradigm of ‘collaboration-reconciliation’ but determinedly favour a polity of peace, based on the identity of their nation, political observers in the island said on Sunday. The message should be useful in seeking innovative and creative ways to resolve the national question in the island in order to achieve peace and stability in the region, they further said.

How to achieve ‘reconciliation’ in the island is the ‘joint concern’ of powers that abetted a genocidal war against Tamils in the island. They all want new leadership to emerge from Eezham Tamils. But their options are double or multifaceted.

While rejecting the nationhood of Eezham Tamils and keeping them under brutal subjugation of the occupying Sri Lanka Army, the concerned powers advocate collaboration with Rajapaksa regime by throwing money and ‘development’ on one hand and on the other hand, they want to competitively groom Tamil leadership under their folds with hopes of ‘unspecified’ political solution. In their ways and means the powers differ subtly.

The military-intimidated civic elections that took place in the country of Eezham Tamils are a despicable way of exercising democracy or probing public opinion. It was a further torture inflicted on a genocide-affected population. Many were intimidated in contesting and voting. Yet the near-50 per cent that has determinedly voted and overwhelmingly supported the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), has shown what the Tamil nation in the island has in its mind.

However, the TNA is a gagged political Alliance. It has no freedom to say what the Tamils really want. What the Eezham Tamils in the island managed to convey to the outside world is only a voice that comes through a gagged mouth.

While the TNA has a historic duty in not disillusioning itself and failing the people of the Tamil nation, the powers should stop torturing Eezham Tamils anymore with their vicious experiments in the island. It is high time the powers approach the national question in the island as a national question.
