IC’s war crimes investigation, looking upon India counterproductive: KP

Gotabhaya-controlled Selvarasa Pathmanathan (KP) meeting media in Mullaiththeevu on Thursday said that the diaspora should stop campaigning for war crimes investigation as it provokes anger and hatred among the Sinhala people. “They have to know the reality, we must live in peace,” he said. According to him, talking about Channel 4 documentation is absurd. On India he said, “India is doing its maximum. India would not go further than this and propose a solution. So this should be understood by responsible people,” adding that, “We should not run to India complaining over minor matters.” The ‘patriotism’ of Sinhala regime that never hesitated to invite the West and India into the island to commit genocide on a part of the population, now voices ‘patriotism’ through the mouth of the captive-KP, to get rid of the ‘partners’, commented Tamil national politicians in the island.

Meanwhile, speaking to Headlines Today this week on the United States, UK and the West’s position on the war crimes investigations on Sri Lanka, KP’s current mentor Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said: “This is not the international community. This is a wrong description. This is just some countries in the international community may be doing this. We have strong backing from the rest of the world, starting from Russia, China I am sure India, Pakistan a lot of the countries from Africa, middle east and south east Asia. That is the international community. A few people in the world can’t say they are international community."

In this context last week the outgoing Indian foreign secretary Nirupama Menon Rao said that the issue has to be resolved within the region and India has to be directly involved in resolving the issue.

“We must take care of it in the neighbourhood. We have to avoid jumping into conclusions on any third party’s involvement, she said.

But KP relayed a different message of Colombo while speaking to Daily Mirror on Thursday: “This is an internal problem. We are blundering again and again. We run to India for everything. This is a historical blunder,” KP said.

“I think, the majority of the people have a fear. We must understand this. There are ten million Sinhalese in Sri Lanka while 60 million Tamils are in Tamil Nadu. They are afraid that the Tamils in Tamil Nadu could overrun Sri Lanka. We should not fuel this fear. We should not run to India complaining over minor matters,” KP further said.

Gotabhaya in his interview to Headlines Today was clear in his outlook to continue state militarism forever to check Tamils. Colombo’s outlook for a military and genocidal state in the southern tip of South Asia should be particularly delightful to some of the members of the ‘International Community,’ Gotabhaya was referring to, political observers said.

KP called the Tamil diaspora as “extremists” for being in the forefront in the campaign against the SL government.

“Some Tamil Nadu politicians and a section of Tamil Diaspora are spearheading this campaign of falsehood to hoodwink the expatriates,” he accused.

KP was calling the diaspora to work with Rajapkasa, citing the plight of thousands of children in the former war zone.

In this regard, Colombo has created an outfit called “NERDO” for KP to operate. KP met Daily Mirror journalists at the “NERDO” office in Mullaiththeevu. Informed circles say Colombo has plans to make him chief minister of the north, in the lines of Pillaiyan in the East.

The diaspora is not allowed to reach out its kith and kin on its own and this is done deliberately by Colombo, say activists in the diaspora and they have a particular grievance with the IC and India for failing to provide an independent platform in this regard.

The KP-line of diaspora volunteers work with Sinhalese under their direction and supervision.

Even KP can’t move freely, even though he paints a different picture, media sources in the island said. Surrounded by ‘security’ he can’t make even an unplanned stop over in his ‘scheduled’ visits to the north and east, the media sources said.
