Emergency laws in Sri Lanka to be lifted

Emergency laws, now in operation in Sri Lanka, will be lifted shortly.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will make a statement on the lifting of emergency in the Parliament session on Thursday, highly placed sources said. Emergency laws were being extended on a monthly basis ever since these were imposed, about three decades ago.
