Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has say in appealing to Commonwealth

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has a say in appealing to New Delhi and other Commonwealth countries, especially where Tamils live, to decide not to hold the Commonwealth Heads of Government meet in Sri Lanka in 2013, Eezham Tamil political circles told TamilNet. The decision will be taken in the Commonwealth Heads of Government meet in Perth in Australia in October. The Canadian Prime Minister has already announced that he would not take part in the meet in Colombo, if Sri Lanka doesn’t make progress on the question of human rights in the island. The Indian Prime Minister may not attend the meet in Australia this year, but Tami Nadu should register its opinion with the head of Indian delegation against deciding on holding the next meet in Colombo, Eezham Tamil politicians requested.

Informed circles told TamilNet that the UK is not dependable and Australia would keep silent as being the host country this year. Pakistan steadily supports Colombo and Colombo has recently found new military relations with Bangladesh. The tiny Maldives is overenthusiastic in supporting genocidal Sri Lanka.

The protest therefore should come from other major and small Commonwealth countries across the world. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu State that has officially resolved in its Assembly for the war crimes investigation and for economic sanctions against Colombo has all the moral rights to appeal to all Commonwealth countries against holding the meet in Colombo in 2013, the Eezham Tamil politicians said.

Commonwealth countries, especially countries like Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius, Seychelles, Guyana, Trinidad, Fiji and others, besides UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand where Tamils live in large numbers will have to respect the appeal of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and this will be a new democratic way of defining the Commonwealth relations, the Eezham Tamil politicians said.

South Africa can influence many African countries that are considerable in number in the Commonwealth.

Besides, the global Tamils in these countries have their own responsibility in persuading their governments not to commit injustice to Tamils by recognizing a State that commits genocide on Tamils, the Eezham Tamil politicians further said.
