Shop worker dies in Huyton store stabbing

The man fatally stabbed in the shop was originally from Sri Lanka A 30-year-old shop worker has died after being stabbed in the neck while working in a Merseyside store.

Merseyside Police said the man was found with a knife wound to his neck at Stanley News on Kingsway in Huyton at about 21:00 GMT on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards. A murder investigation has begun.

Officers are trying to trace family of the dead man, originally from Sri Lanka. A post-mortem test is due later.

Knowsley Area Commander Ch Supt Darren Martland said it had been a "brutal and unprovoked attack".

He added that the motive for the assault was unknown.
