Colombo-backed drug traffic destroys future of Tamil students in Jaffna

Religious leaders and civil society groups have joined hands to work against Colombo’s planned distribution of drugs among Tamil youth in Jaffna. It has been revealed in a recent survey that around 28 students of both sexes in a leading mixed school in the peninsula were engaged in distributing drugs. The shocking information came to light following the detection of a student who was responsible for the distribution of drugs, and that led to the identification of persons who are engaged in trafficking drugs into the peninsula.

Persons involved in the drug traffic from the south to the north are identified as members of Sri Lanka Army and some Muslims from the south, according to the survey.

Jaffna educationists are of the opinion that the government‘s aim is to destroy the future of Tamil youth and their culture by making them addicts to drugs. School students in urban areas are specially targeted by the government-backed drug agenda, they said.

Educationists blame that Colombo’s law-enforcement authorities are not prepared to stop the menace by conducting any judicial process even though after the arrest of some culprits in this regard.

Hence the civil groups have come forward to work against the escalation of the use of drugs among students with the backing of the Jaffna University community. They say their intention is to create awareness among the population about the danger of allowing distribution of drugs among younger generation and they solicit support from the political parties and non-political social groups in the peninsula.

Earlier there was an impression that drugs brought from south was for the use of SLA personnel and their manual labourers. Now it has been found out that occupying Colombo intentionally allows the traffic of drugs to the north as a part of its structural and cultural genocide agenda, civil groups say.

High-ranking elements within the Colombo government coordinating drug traffic inside and outside of the island was recently found revealed in a WikiLeaks document originating from the US embassy in Colombo.
