CM condoles SN Lakshmi’s death

image Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and a large number of personalities from Kollywood on Tuesday condoled the death of veteran actress SN Lakshmi, and recalled her service to the industry for many decades.

In a statement, the Chief Minister said her death was a great loss to the film world. A recipient of the state government’s ‘Kalaimamani’ and ‘Kalaiselvam’ awards, Lakshmi acted in more than 1,500 films and 6,000 dramas, she recalled.

Several film stars thronged her house at Saligramam in Chennai to pay respects. The last rites are expected to be held on Tuesday in her native Virudhunagar district.

Lakshmi, known for playing mother and grandmother roles in many movies, passed away early Monday due to a heart attack. She was 85. She had acted with a wide range of actors from MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to Ajith and Vijay.
