US ready to work with Lanka

USA-flag_CI-150x150 The US government says it is prepared to work with the Sri Lankan government in order to bring lasting peace to the island.

A US delegation attending the UN Human Rights Council session underway in Geneva said that accountability can play a key role in the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka.

“We note the publication of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and welcome its recommendations on reconciliation,” the US delegation told the 19th session of the Council on Monday.

However the delegation noted that the report does not include any plan to implement those recommendations, nor does it adequately address the critical issue of accountability.

“Based on recent history from countries that have undergone similar experiences, we know accountability can play an important role in the reconciliation process,” the US delegation said.
