China has confidence in MR

The Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry today (Thursday) quoted the Chinese Minister of Industrial and Information Technology Miao Wei as saying that it was confident that under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka will make steady progress.

He has also said that Sri Lanka has realized domestic peace and the post-war reconstruction is progressing steadily, while accelerated economic development has improved the livelihood of the people.

China would like to continue to provide assistance to help the economic and social development of Sri Lanka.  The Minister was confident that the friendship between Sri Lanka and China would last forever, the External Affairs Ministry said.

Meanwhile the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa was quoted in the statement by the External Affairs Ministry as saying he was confident that the close cooperation, respect and friendship between Sri Lanka and China will continue to grow as Sri Lanka builds on the foundations of peace to achieve prosperity for its people through economic transformation in which China remains a trusted development partner.

Sri Lanka and China are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries this year.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China Ranjith Uyangoda was also quoted in the statement as saying that since the formalization of relations between both countries in 1957, there has been steady progress in many areas of cooperation including people to people contacts.

Ambassador Uyangoda also said that in the recent past the relations have been further strengthened under the leadership of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chinese President.
