Karunanidhi reiterates demand on resolution

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi on Monday reiterated his demand that India support the US-sponsored resolution against the Sri Lankan government at the United Nations Human Rights Council in the wake of media reports on the killing of LTTE leader Prabakharan’s son by the Sri Lankan army.

“There are many such atrocities. That is why I am consistently urging India to support the resolution against Sri Lanka. All political parties in Tamil Nadu have taken a stand on the issue and the Indian government should fulfil their aspiration,” Mr. Karunanidhi said when asked about the killing of Prabhakaran’s son, about which new footage has emerged.

Asked whether he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to press his demand, Mr. Karunanidhi said taking into consideration the busy schedule of the Prime Minister, he had asked DMK MP T.R. Baalu to take up the issue. “Mr. Baalu has raised the issue with the Prime Minister,” he said.

On the possibility of a third or fourth front emerging in the national political scenario in the wake of outcome of election results in five States, he said he was not in a position to comment on the issue now.
