Tamil youth in France pledge to uphold Tamil sovereignty

Eezham Tamil youth in France resolved to challenge the dominant global injustice against oppressed nations and approved of The Tamil Sovereignty Cognition declaration “as a principled approach to solve the national question of Eelam Tamils”, along with other resolutions regarding contemporary issues, at a meeting on ‘Self-Determination of the Tamil Eelam people’ organized by the Tamil Youth Organization (TYO)-France at Paris, on Sunday. Speaking to TamilNet, Gobina Mohanandan, media co-ordinator for TYO-France, said that the meeting aimed to give conceptual clarity on Tamil sovereignty and also to highlight the importance of raising awareness among the French public on genocide of the Eezham Tamils and the right of the Tamil people to self-determination.

France_TYO_declaration_01_98739_445 Prof. Satihathasan spoke about the historical aspects of the struggle and presentations on Tamil sovereignty, the right to self-determination, and geopolitics were made at the event.

France_TYO_declaration_04_98750_200 The following resolutions were unanimously passed at the event:

  1. Awareness of Eelam Tamil identity and promotion of that identity in French society, as it is vital to our cultural life in France and for the restoration of our sovereignty in the occupied land of Tamil Eelam.

  2. France_TYO_declaration_03_98747_200 We welcome the Tamil Sovereignty Cognition as a principled approach to solve the national question of Eelam Tamils in the island of Ceylon, and we recognize the statement as a step following the resolution of Vaddukkoaddai 1976, Thimpu Principles of 1985 and the reaffirmation of the resolution of Vaddukkoaddai among the Tamil diaspora in 2009.

  3. France_TYO_declaration_02_98743_200 To address the global injustice that made possible the genocidal war on the Tamils of Eelam. This is a step to rebalance power.

  4. Tamils in Eelam are subject in their home country to genocide, planned and executed in various ways and are kept in a system of colonization.

  5. We resolve to respect the legacy of the struggle for the liberation of Tamil Eelam and its fighters who died for their country and as well as 60 years of resistance. We strive to promote cultural and political symbols: such as the flag of Tamil Eelam, language, national holidays and culture at national and international levels. We will promote the ideals of resistance and the freedom fighters in all aspects of Tamil life.

  6. We reject the territorial integrity of Sri Lankan State which occupies the Tamil Eelam and we reject the imposition of the identity of "Sri Lankans" politically and culturally on the Tamils of Eelam.

  7. We will boycott any organization of the Tamil diaspora that compromise the principles of nation, homeland and self-determination and therefore gives the unitary Sri Lankan state legitimacy.

  8. We call the new generation of Tamils of Tamil Eelam to challenge the international community to reassess its approach to self-determination for nations and peoples not recognized, and to strengthen solidarity with other peoples living under occupation and to challenge current the geopolitical order.

  9. We are committed to raising awareness and educating Tamils and others on the Tamil cause and we will raise international awareness about the legitimacy of the struggle for liberation of Tamil Eelam.

  10. As today’s Tamil youth, we also take initiative towards the abolition of castes and other differences between us, as indicated by the ideals of the movement led by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
