A public meeting and exhibition at the Imperial College London on Saturday organized by Tamil women activists condemned the Sri Lankan state’s systematic use of rape against the Eezham Tamil nation as a weapon of genocide. The event titled ‘Rape! Sterilisation! Mutilation!’, besides involving presentations by women activists on the nature and extent of sexual violence faced by Tamil women in the island of Sri Lanka, also presented recordings of Tamil women survivors of abuse.

Activists from TCC-UK, Woman of Colour, and TAG-UK, made presentations on the subject. The TYO-UK had a photo exhibition depicting the theme of the event.

The activists highlighted the need for the chronic issue of sexual violence against Tamil women to be discussed in forums so as to create greater awareness among the public about the genocidal nature of the issue and to be taken to non-Tamil audiences.

The participants were in general consensus about mobilizing opinion and creating awareness among the public in different countries in the West over the grave situation faced by Eezham Tamil women in their occupied homeland.
