US hip-hop band conveys solidarity with Tamil struggle

Dead Prez, an American hip-hop duo, conveyed their solidarity with the Eezham Tamils’ struggle at a concert held in Sydney on Saturday. The group, who are known for their espousal of social justice and Black Nationalism through their art, expressed their admiration for the Tamil Tigers, with one of the artists proudly wearing the Tamil Eelam national flag around him during a segment of the performance.

The group also regretted the international silence over the massacre of Tamils in 2009. “Almost a hundred thousand Tamils died, and nobody said a word,” a band member said on stage.

They also conveyed their solidarity with “political prisoners, prisoners of war and freedom fighters.”

“We know that we don’t get our liberation if we don’t get our land,” a member said in favour of the Tamil struggle.

Dead Prez was formed by artists M1 and stic.man in 1996.
