While Bolivia honoured Rajapaksa as the chief guest of the Group of 77 (G77) meeting and Cuban President Raul Castro expressed his willingness to work with leaders like Rajapaksa, anti-Muslim violence has shaken the island of Sri Lanka. Sinhala mobs led by the Bodu Bala Sena attacked the Muslim community in Aluthgama in the South this week. The shops of Muslims, houses and mosques were targeted while the SL police allegedly remained mute spectators. The attacks resulted in at least three Muslims dead and over 50 injured. The moral endorsement of Sri Lanka by not just the Western establishments, but also the establishments of the Left and the Third World allows the genocidal state to commit whatever crime it wants with impunity knowing that it has the blessings of all sides, comment activists from the island.
The violence in the Aluthgama town erupted after a peaceful protest by Muslims against a mob violence at a Muslim owned shop at Aluthgama.
This happens at a time when the Sri Lankan President is addressing a G77 meeting in Bolivia on ‘For a New World Order to Living Well’, where he has also reportedly complained about too much external interference in Sri Lanka’s affairs.
The Latin American bloc’s obnoxious and deplorable endorsement of genocidal Sri Lanka has once again been illustrated with the arrival of President Rajapakasa on the 13th of June 2014 in Bolivia to attend the summit of head of states and governments of the Group 77 (G77).
The official site of the G77 announced “President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has extensive political career that includes a recognized militant for human rights in his country, which has earned him the honor to Parliamentary Order Merit Democratic Rep. Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz, granted by the Plurinational Legislative Assembly of Bolivia.”
Complementing such a welcome, on the conclusion days the president of Cuba Raul Castro has also expressed his willingness to work with ‘leaders’ like Rajapaksa. He also added that Fidel Castro regarded the Sri Lankan state as ‘one of our friends’.
The political injustice to Tamils attains many faces in the geo political landscape of the globe, but what is nefarious is that ‘socialist’ and ‘imperialist’ alike are equally courting the genocidal Sri Lankan government through acts which denies the Tamil national question and which legitimizes the structural genocide in the Tamil homeland, commented activists from the islands.
Such an unholy alliance of international establishment is enhancing the Sri Lankan state capacities to execute genocide and to legitimize it as democracy, anti-imperialism, reconciliation and development alike, they further said, adding that this gives Sinhala chauvinists the courage to commit acts of violence like the recent attacks against the Muslims.
