CID questions JVP weekly editor

Chandana Sirimalwatte, editor of Sinhala weekly “Lanka” was questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department of Sri Lanka Police Monday for about two and a half hours over the news report on the alleged plot to kill General Sarath Fonseka by the government by deploying a woman suicide bomber.

He was later released Monday evening.

The pro-Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) weekly “Lanka” last week carried the controversial lead story.

The editor was asked to report to the CID headquarters to face an inquiry in connection with the report following the directive issued by the Defence Ministry Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to find out the source for the story.
