Ex-LTTE cadres to take up role of drivers and conductors

A total of 100 former LTTE cadres will soon don the role of drivers and conductors running the state transport buses in Sri Lanka’s northern region.

The government has decided to train the rehabilitated former Tamil Tigers for the job in its efforts to integrate them into the mainstream.

Northern Province governor G A Chandrasiri said the government is in the process of selecting 100 former LTTE combatants, who are currently at rehabilitation centres.

He said they will be provided driving lessons and conductor training before being employed in the transport service in the Northern Province. They will be selected on the basis of qualification and skills.
